Why You-Powered?
The purpose of the Green Ribbon Commission’s You-Powered festivals are to provide a free community celebration to encourage walking and biking – transportation powered by YOU! Other communities have found that by encouraging residents to walk or bike to an event, participation in walking and biking is greater than simply encouraging walking and biking without a specific purpose. By getting people to walk and bike instead of driving cars, they will reduce their contribution of environment-harming greenhouse gas emissions. While the impact of only one day of less driving is relatively insignificant, the goal is to provide a positive experience to encourage further walking and biking beyond the event itself.
